Mayor Kaladze: No justification for boycott; every international tournament matters to every athlete

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has spoken to the media regarding Georgia’s Paralympic team’s participation in the Winter Paralympic Games, stating that the country had no grounds whatsoever to declare a boycott of the Games.

“We will not be joining any boycott. We have received no shortage of calls to do so, including on the matter of sanctions. Why should we join something that would be harmful to our country’s economic development and to the Georgian people? By the same token, why should athletes take such a step? Why should we not participate? There is absolutely no basis for it. I spent many years in football. Every international tournament matters to every athlete. They train and give everything they have to achieve success in competitions of this kind,” said Kakha Kaladze.
