Mayor Kaladze: Marco Rubio's message is very significant; we are ready to reset relations
“Under the new President and administration, the Georgian government is ready to turn a new page in relations with the USA,” Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze has stated.
Kaladze responded to the conversation between Marco Rubio and Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili, noting that Rubio’s messages are crucial.
According to him, the Georgian government took a step towards the USA and, immediately upon President Trump’s victory, expressed readiness to reset relations.
“This is a very significant message. We have said many times, and will repeat once again, that we are ready to renew relations, to turn a new page, to reset. The Georgian government is prepared for all of this, and we welcome this attitude that was discussed. There is, of course, an expectation.
The Georgian government has taken a stand, and we firmly state that the unjust attitude that prevailed under the Biden administration is entirely unacceptable to us. We are an independent, sovereign state, and the master of this country is His Eminence the Georgian people. We are a small country, but respect must be shown to our past, culture, traditions, sovereignty and independence. Along with this, we said that under the new President and administration, the Georgian government is ready to turn a new page in relations.
The attitude of the Biden administration was categorically unacceptable; nothing but lies, unfair treatment, falsehoods, including regarding the same sanctions, without any argument or explanation,” Kakha Kaladze stated.
Kakha Kaladze also did not rule out that resetting relations may require more time.
Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili stated that he had a very warm meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio. As Kavelashvili stated when summing up his working visit to Milan, during the conversation with JD Vance and Marco Rubio, he emphasised common values. According to Kavelashvili, JD Vance indicated that they possess some information and that closer relations will undoubtedly be restored. Furthermore, as Kavelashvili noted, during the meeting, Marco Rubio mentioned that they would also establish a technical group to enable relations to be renewed from a clean slate.
