Mayor: GD ready for cooperation, expects concrete steps from U.S.

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Tuesday said, “It is a sad reality that there is no boundary between non-governmental organizations and those radical groups that will be called political parties.”

Kaladze remarked on Transparency International – Georgia’s statement about Eka Gigauri’s upcoming address to the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations on 12 September.

“It is shameful that Gigauri will discuss Georgia’s future and democracy. Gigauri is a representative of a non-governmental organization, but in reality, she is an ordinary politician”, Kaladze noted.

Remarking on the U.S.- Georgia relations, the Mayor stated, “The ruling political team is ready for cooperation and expects concrete steps from the United States.”

“The false PR campaign that we have been listening to for the past months is categorically unacceptable. It was about the “Foreign Influence Transparency” law, but in reality, the law is merely a made-up issue.

The actual difficulty and dissatisfaction sprang from Georgia’s refusal to join the sanctions. We made this decision to avoid causing harm to our country and people,” Kaladze added.
