Luke Coffey: Georgia is exemplary for other countries in the region

Luke Coffey, the political observer of Heritage Foundation believes that Georgia in terms of democratic development is in the right direction. In an interview with the First Channel Luke Coffey says that different studies show a different picture of the country’s democratic development.

When asked question about, whether he agrees with the assessments of the Freedom House, according to which Georgia’s democracy indicator decreased in 2017, Luke Coffey says that Georgia’s progress in terms of democratic development is conspicuous and the country is exemplary for other countries in this region.

“The Freedom House report shows one corner of the situation. If you, for example, look at the Index of Economic Freedom, which measures economic freedom around the world, Georgia’s indicator has increased in the same period of time when Freedom House says that the quality of democracy in Georgia has decreased”, – the political observer of Heritage Foundation said.
