Lithuanian Ambassador to Georgia Andrius Kalindra believes that Georgia has progressed in the fulfillment of 12 priorities. However, some issues remain that should be addressed.
According to the Ambassador, the set conditions should be fully met in order for Georgia to be granted EU candidate status.
“The twelve conditions were set up in order for these conditions to be met and were fully fulfilled in order for Georgia to be granted the EU candidate status. There is still time to go for another half a year. Definitely, there is progress, but also there are some issues to be addressed.
The main issue, I would say, is the credibility of actions that are being made in order to have the overall consensus among the EU member states because that will be a political decision in hands of the 27 European Union member states. We are working very much in order for them to be fulfilled.
A week ago, we hosted Georgian President Salome Zourabichvili in Vilnius for an official visit. Before that, we had the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for a political dialogue. Political dialogue is the essence to go ahead, in order we have Georgia as a member of the European family,” he said.
