Lithuanian Ambassador: Foreign influence bill contradicts EU recommendations
“The draft law on foreign influence contradicts the EU recommendations and is incompatible with the EU norms and values,” said Andrius Kalindra, the Ambassador of Lithuania to Georgia.
He expressed his belief that Georgia will take advantage of the historic window of opportunity presented by the renewed enlargement process.
“The EU candidate status has been granted to Georga from the understanding that nine steps, set up by the European Commission, to be taken and implemented. Georgia is closer than ever to start accession negotiations. Among these nine steps, Georgia has been invited to fight disinformation, violent information manipulation, and interference against the European Union, and ensure that the civil society can operate freely. In this regard, the current draft law on foreign influence contradicts the EU recommendations and is incompatible with the EU norms and values.
Also, by saying this, still, we do feel that Georgia will use this historic window of opportunity of the renegotiated enlargement process,” said the Lithuanian Ambassador.
