Liliane Maury Pasquier: During 20 years, Georgia has demonstrated strong aspiration to Europe and European values
I believe my visit is a good opportunity to highlight the importance of cooperation between the Assembly of the Council of Europe and Georgia, – the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Liliane Maury Pasquier has made this statement at the press conference held after the meeting with Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze today.
Liliane Maury Pasquier called the meeting with Kobakhidze interesting and focused on cooperation between Georgia and the PACE.
“I believe my visit is a good opportunity to highlight the importance of cooperation between the Assembly of the Council of Europe and Georgia. I think this visit will contribute to further strengthening of our cooperation. It is the 20th anniversary of Georgia’s accession to the Council of Europe and during the period Georgia has demonstrated a strong aspiration to Europe and European values, has implemented democratic reforms in various institutions”, – said Liliane Maury Pasquier.
As the guest noted, a number of issues, including judicial reform and fight against corruption, has been discussed during the meeting.
Within the framework of the visit, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe will hold meetings with the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili, Prime Minister Mamuka Bakhtadze and Foreign Minister Davit Zalkaliani. Tomorrow, a session dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Georgia’s accession to the Council of Europe will be opened in the Parliament of Georgia.
