Lelo's Gegelia understands pressure, confirms no attack; let's refocus and unite regardless of struggle tactics
“There is pressure, I understand that, but there was no attack whatsoever. I want to ask everyone to refocus and unite, regardless of what struggle tactics we each have,” declared Grigol Gegelia, one of the leaders of Lelo-Strong Georgia, speaking to journalists after confrontations at the protest rally in support of jailed journalist Mzia Amaglobeli in front of the Parliament building.
Following the altercation on Rustaveli Avenue, Gegelia emphasised that the primary goals remain new parliamentary elections and the release of all political prisoners.
“Our main objective is new parliamentary elections and the release of all political prisoners,” Gegelia stated.
“There is pressure, I understand that, but there’s no problem, no attack occurred, no particular excess. Some people have anxieties; for me, this is understandable. I have no problem with it; on the contrary, I consider these people fellow fighters.
Regardless of anyone’s position, I will continue fighting for this country. Everything is and will be fine, except for one person, Bidzina Ivanishvili. There is no other target or opposition. I would ask everyone to refocus and remember who the real enemy of this country is. Regardless of what struggle tactics we each have, let us unite and stand together. We are all in the same fight,” Gegelia concluded.
Recently, protesters confronted Grigol Gegelia during the ongoing demonstration on Rustaveli Avenue. Verbal and physical confrontations erupted after protest participants objected to the presence of Lelo’s leader at the rally. According to demonstrators, their protest was prompted by Lelo’s participation in local government elections.
