Lelo to form public resistance movement

The opposition Lelo party will form a public resistance movement to oppose the People’s Power-tabled, the so-called Foreign Agents bill, party leader Mamuka Khazaradze announced.

He said the bill “comes in conflict with the Constitution, it is Russian and has nothing to do with the United States.”

Khazaradze went on to say that a public resistance movement would support all activities to vote the bill down.

“We will not give up our European choice. It is time to unite. Lelo’s Political Board will decide to form a public resistance movement. Lelo starts cooperating with public and political groups. It will support all activities to vote this bill down. We will intensify work with the international community to sanction all advocates of this proposed legislation. A bill presented to plenary will bring large crowds to the streets,” Khazaradze said.

The Transparency of Foreign Influence and Foreign Agents Registration Act drafts have been submitted to the parliamentary Legal Affairs Committee for revision following physical and verbal altercation and harsh debates in the Georgian parliament until late March 2.
