Law enforcement officers foil illegal narcotics smuggling into Georgia

Officers from the Central Criminal Police Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), together with personnel from the Customs Department of the Revenue Service of the Ministry of Finance, have arrested a person identified as N.D., born in 1964, on charges of illicit purchase, possession, and smuggling of narcotics into Georgia.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a statement, saying that law enforcement officials seized 420 narcotic tablets as evidence during a search of the defendant’s hand luggage at Kutaisi International Airport.

“The investigation is ongoing under Articles 260 and 262 of the Criminal Code, which stipulate penalties of up to nine years’ imprisonment,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs stated.
