Latvian FM: Situation in Georgia has not changed; people want Europe, but the government takes no steps
The situation on the ground in Georgia has not changed. Georgian people want to be part of Europe. Unfortunately, the government has not taken any steps, Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže said ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg.
Asked about how today’s deliberations might unfold, FM Braže declined to predict the outcome.
“I cannot predict how the discussion will go, because we will listen to the presentations by both the European External Action Service and the Commission,” Braže told journalists.
“The situation on the ground has not changed. Georgian people want to be part of Europe. Unfortunately, the government has not taken any steps. We have the embassy. A new ambassador was accredited in Riga, so there is a dialogue. Georgia is not excluded from international affairs, but regarding the steps towards the EU that the Georgian people want, the people want something different from what the government wants.”
