“The logic of the Hungarian Prime Minister is quite well-founded,” Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze stated in response to a journalist’s question regarding remarks by Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar suggesting that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union could take 15 or even 20 years.

As the head of government pointed out, the Hungarian Prime Minister’s scepticism follows a precise logic, built upon solid political, technical, and financial grounds.

“Admitting Ukraine into the European Union could lead to the total zeroing-out of EU assistance intended for all Eastern European countries; this is, for instance, a technical-financial reason. There are many other reasons, including political reasons, above all. Therefore, I reiterate that this logic of the Hungarian Prime Minister is entirely well-founded,” Irakli Kobakhidze stated.

The Hungarian Prime Minister, Péter Magyar, declared that Ukraine’s accession to the European Union might take 15 to 20 years.
