Justice Minister says investigation to answer questions over June 20 developments
“We have questions about June 20, 2019, developments and investigation will determine whether excess force was used,” said Paata Salia, Georgian Justice Minister.
According to the Minister, the decision of the Strasbourg-based court urges the conduct of a more effective investigation.
“The Strasbourg-based Court clearly stated in connection with the June 20 events in Tbilisi that the government has the right to use force when state institutions, buildings, police officers are attacked. This is significant.
The court also urged for the conduct of a more effective investigation. We agree with that. The issue concerns the government’s legitimate right to use well-planned proportional force. We have questions about the June 20, 2019, developments and the investigation will determine whether excess force was used,” he said.
