Justice Minister publishes inmates' letters to portray prison insight before 2012

Rati Bregadze, the Justice Minister of Georgia, shared excerpts from letters written by inmates on his Facebook page in order to provide insight into the situation and conditions in prisons prior to 2012. He said the principle of the rule was “torture and control.”

“I think society should know the truth from history, the reoccurrence of which we should not admit together,” Rati Bregadze said.

According to the Minister, prisoners wrote that they were given seeds for parrots for food, 40 inmates had to take a shower in 15 minutes, four people shared one bed, and inmates were physically assaulted in corridors describing other ill-treatments or humiliations.
