Javelins will be a signal to Moscow that attack on Georgia will cost expensive, – former US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Ukraine, Russia and Eurasia, Evelyn Farkas, said in an interview with the Georgian bureau of Voice of America.

According to Farkas, the supply of Javelins to Georgia is not only timely, but even a little late decision. “From 2012 to 2015, I had been personally advising three different defense secretaries to make this decision. The Obama administration did not want to make this decision, which left the issue openly for the Trump administration. I am very glad that the issue was finally resolved in favor of Georgia. The main issue now is how Georgia will pay for the weapon. We do not yet know whether the US government will provide Georgia with enough assistance to cover the full price of Javelins.

However, Georgia will presumably be allowed to pay for the weapon in installments. I urge the government to act quickly and do everything to get this weapon. It’s a defensive weapon that will send Russia a signal that any new attack on Georgia will cost expensive – Russian soldiers will be killed and Russian tanks will be destroyed,” Farkas said.

According to Farkas, Russians will always be irritated by some steps of the government of Georgia and people should just develop skills not to pay attention to it. She also added that the current US policy is a continuation of Obama’s policy, which was continuation of George W. Bush’s policy, meaning that all US administrations perceive Georgia as a close partner.
