Jailed Saakashvili: Not making money was wise—that’s why I have people’s support

“The situation is simple—action again and again, unity, and victory are within reach. I know many are nervous—our compatriots and supporters both inside and outside Georgia. I ask them to have hope in me,” said former President Mikheil Saakashvili during his remote court appearance.

As Saakashvili noted, the struggle will continue until victory, which they will definitely achieve.

“Despite the hell these individuals are trying to create for me, we will stand firm, fight until victory, and ultimately succeed. I want to address those who supported the Georgian Dream party, hoping for a better future—most of whom are now in the right position, and I sincerely appreciate that. I had hoped for this in 2012 when I peacefully transferred power. The same hand that brought these people to power must now let them go, regardless of their desires,” he emphasized.

Moreover, according to Mikheil Saakashvili, the injustice against him is a pre-written and calculated scenario.

“It was written in the corridors and offices of the FSB (Russian Federal Security Service)—accusations of money misappropriation, routine presidential expenses, while my daughter Alisa longs for a separate room in the apartment where she lives, amidst constant guests. And look at these people—they have become unimaginably wealthy.

Was I a fool not to make money while in power in Georgia? I wasn’t a fool. My belief has always been that one cannot enrich oneself at the expense of one’s own people, especially the poor. Power must not be abused, property, forests, lands—nothing—should be stolen or appropriated. These people think we are fools because I didn’t do that. But I am not a fool. That is precisely why I have the support and love of the Georgian people, both inside and outside the country.

To Georgians living abroad, I say—prepare to return to Georgia. Those who choose not to return will still have the right to vote. Through electronic voting, you will help decide the future of our country—so that dictatorship never takes root again, and a kleptocratic, shameful government never comes to power in Georgia.

Now, as I see a united Georgia in the streets—through rallies, patriotic spirit, and the warmth of the people from all sides, including mine—I can confidently say that our collective patriotic efforts have not been in vain. All the proud changes we have implemented together are a testament to our resilience and determination. People, you must prepare for the revival of Georgia’s glorious era—an era that Georgia has never experienced before in its history. You must get ready so that once again, the world admires us, and everyone speaks of Georgia with pride,” Mikheil Saakashvili declared.
