Jailed ex-president claims ruling party aims to oust UNM chair

“The so-called government is attempting to remove the party chair, Tina Bokuchava. I urge all members not to fall victim to their dirty machinations,” jailed ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili stated on Facebook.

Saakashvili called on UNM members in city assemblies to “stand firm” and refrain from engaging in corruption.

“The oligarchic regime is attacking and interfering in our party’s affairs. It seeks to oust Tina Bokuchava, a leader who poses a threat to them on the international stage. As the founder of the movement, I wholeheartedly support our party leadership and implore every member to resist their treacherous tactics.

I also call upon our members in the city assemblies—those for whom I have sacrificed my freedom and continue to endure imprisonment—to demonstrate their defiance and avoid participating in corrupt dealings associated with construction lobbying,” Saakashvili wrote.
