Iveria Virgin Mary fresco placed in the Vatican

Iveria Virgin Mary mosaic fresco has been placed in the Vatican. Georgian Foreign Minister Ilia Darchiashvili, the Vatican City State representatives, and the Georgian Orthodox Church’s representatives participated in the official inauguration ceremony.

Organized by the Georgian Embassy in the Vatican, a solemn reception was held at the historic Palazzo della Cancelleria. Metropolitan Daniel of Chiatura and Sachkhere thanked Pope Francis and gifted him a book of Catholic mesas printed in 1683 in Florence.

Architects have worked on the fresco decorated with precious stones for five months. The GOC’s Arts and Restoration Center, headed by Patriarch Ilia II, decided to depict the Iveria Virgin Mary on the fresco, the author of which is Amiran Bakuradze.
