IRI survey: 19% of Georgians to vote for GD, 14% for UNM

The International Republican Institute (IRI) published the 2023 National Public Opinion Survey of Georgian Residents. The survey included questions about elections and political parties.

The question “If Parliamentary Elections were held this coming Saturday, for which party, if any, would you vote?” returned the following results: 19% of respondents said they would vote for the Georgian Dream -Democratic Georgia (GD) party, while 14% for United National Movement (UNM) party. For Georgia – Giorgi Gakharia and Girchi More Freedom – Zurab Girchi Japaridze received 3% of support each. Other parties – less than 2% of votes.

In response to a question, “Which parties, if any, would you not vote for under any circumstances?” 39% said they would not vote for the UNM, while 34% for the GD.

Also, based on the survey, Georgian citizens demonstrate low trust in political parties. 42% of interviewed said that none of the political parties represent their interests, and 78% want to see more youth in Georgian politics.

The Institute of Polling & Marketing (IPM) carried out the fieldwork. The data was collected throughout Georgia between March 4 and 23, 2023, through CAPI-administered face-to-face interviews in respondents’ homes. The representative sample comprised 1,500 permanent residents of Georgia aged 18 and older and eligible to vote. The response rate was 63 per cent. The margin of error does not exceed ±2.5%.
