Irakli Kobakhidze: Role of CoE in strengthening Georgian democracy is invaluable
Irakli Kobakhidze, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia states that the role of the Council of Europe in the strengthening Georgian democracy is invaluable.
According to Kobakhidze, the visit of the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Liliane Maury Pasquier, is symbolic as it is dedicated to the 20th anniversary of Georgia’s accession to the Council of Europe.
“We discussed our bilateral cooperation at the meeting and talked about the further development of this cooperation. We also talked about the reforms implemented in Georgia.
We have a very good experience of cooperation with the Council of Europe, specifically with the Parliamentary Assembly. This cooperation is contributing to the consolidation of our democracy, strengthening of the principle of rule of law. The role of the Council of Europe and the Parliamentary Assembly in terms of supporting our territorial integrity is very important. During these 20 years, Georgia has made great progress in various directions. I am convinced that our cooperation will become even closer and more productive”, – Irakli Kobakhidze stated at the press conference held after the meeting with the President of PACE.
