Irakli Kobakhidze – Parliament should be based in Tbilisi for reinforcement of its identity
It is important for reinforcement of the identity that the parliament has one palace and is based in Tbilisi – Irakli Kobakhidze, Chairman of Parliament stated.
According to Kobakhidze, the issue of the location of parliament underwent through discussions in the ruling team and the majority of lawmakers backed the idea of relocation of the supreme legislative body to Georgia’s capital.
“Parliamentary palace is not only the working place and a certain office. It is a symbol. . . . Upon the decision of the majority, we agreed that the Georgian parliament will continue activities in Tbilisi starting January 1, 2019,” Kobakhidze said.
Kobakhidze named strengthening of a supervisory function as one of the main arguments for the relocation of the parliament that will ensure daily interaction between the parliament and government.
Also, as Kobakhidze claimed, expenditures related to maintenance of two buildings would be reduced as a result.
