Irakli Kobakhidze announces gradual introduction of free tuition at state universities from next year

“Starting from next year and in the years that follow, tuition will be free for everyone who enrols at state universities,” declared the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, speaking to journalists.

According to the Prime Minister, this represents a significant and crucial change, which will be implemented gradually across the state university system.

“Regarding higher education reform and, in particular, funding, we held a series of discussions, both within the government and at the political council, and made a decision that, beginning in 2026, tuition fees at state universities will be completely abolished. From next year onwards, and over the subsequent years, tuition will be free for all students at the state universities. This is a very important development, and its phased introduction aims to ensure a smooth transition within the state university system,” the Prime Minister has said.
