Irakli Kobakhidze: Agencies investigate cartel deals; we must await their findings
“I would prefer not to jump to hasty conclusions. There are relevant agencies that scrutinise cartel transactions and take suitable action when needed. We must wait for such an investigation before making any definitive statements,” Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze told journalists.
As the head of government emphasised, the primary goal is to find ways to minimise prices as much as possible.
“A parliamentary commission will undoubtedly be established; that is the decision of the Parliament. As for specific potential cartel deals, I will not comment in detail today.
We are currently meeting with Georgian food producers to hear their perspectives and gather information from them. We do not want to draw premature conclusions.
The relevant agencies are examining possible cartel arrangements and will take appropriate measures if necessary. We should await the results of their investigation before making any specific remarks. The key is to listen to everyone and, together, we must find the best ways to reduce prices. That remains our main objective,” Kobakhidze stated.
