The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs has issued a statement regarding the death of a Security Police Department officer.

“The Ministry of Internal Affairs expresses profound sorrow over the death of Security Police Department officer T.O., born in 1985, and extends heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. On February 9 this year, T.O. was found deceased in the security police workroom at Rabati Prison. Initial reports indicate that he may have taken his own life by firearm while on duty. As a result of his injuries, the officer died at the scene,” the Ministry stated.

The agency further confirmed that an investigation is currently underway under Article 115 of the Criminal Code, which pertains to incitement to suicide. The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office is actively conducting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
