Interior Ministry destroys 926kg of drugs worth over GEL 19 million on black market

A standing commission established by order of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia has destroyed an unprecedented quantity of narcotics, 926 kilograms of various types of drugs, seized from illegal circulation as a result of investigative activities conducted at different times across Georgia. The total value of these substances on the so-called black market exceeds GEL 19 million.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), staff from the expert-criminalistic department destroyed particularly large quantities of various types of narcotic substances in a special high-temperature furnace meeting modern standards (incinerator), including: cocaine, heroin, methadone, MDMA, alpha-PVP, ketamine, mephedrone, buprenorphine, tramadol, codeine, diazepam and cannabis. Also destroyed were psychotropic and new psychoactive substances of various designations.

“In accordance with existing legislation, the narcotics destruction process, conducted in line with modern environmental standards, involved representatives from the Prosecutor General’s Office and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Protection, alongside members of the standing commission from the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Narcotic substances seized as evidence are stored in a specially equipped facility that meets international standards. They are subsequently destroyed in accordance with the court’s verdict in criminal cases,” states the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
