Today Georgia marks Independence Day, commemorating May 26, 1918 – the day when the Act of Independence was adopted, establishing the First Democratic Republic of Georgia.
Georgian citizens have gathered at the Freedom Square and adjacent Rustaveli Avenue in downtown Tbilisi for Independence Day celebrations.
Georgian President Salome Zourabishvili and Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili have addressed the nation from the stand on Tbilisi’s Freedom Square.
