Today we say that 25 years have passed since the fall of Sokhumi, fall will be followed by ascension, – Catholicos Patriarch of All Georgia, His Holiness and Beatitude Ilia II stated after the church serviced at the Sameba (Holy Trinity) Cathedral.

“Thus who has fallen, alone God knows, and we know that the God have mercy upon us “, – Ilia II said.

Orthodox Church marks the Day of the Exaltation of the Cross, on September 27.  Twenty-five years passed after fall of Sokhumi. Georgia commemorates the 25th anniversary of fall of Sokhumi.
