Health Minister: Industry experts share views on price cuts and access in pharmaceutical sector
“It was unquestionably a very interesting meeting. Many perspectives were shared, not only on how the state perceives these issues but also on how sector representatives themselves view price reduction and product accessibility. There was also discussion on quality and other aspects of accessibility,” stated Georgia’s Minister of Health at a meeting with pharmaceutical company representatives held within the framework of the Cross-Government Coordination Commission on food prices.
According to Mikheil Sarjveladze, the meetings with sector representatives demonstrate promising prospects for taking concrete steps and achieving the primary goal of establishing the commission.
“Of course, this is a specific sphere, different from those other sectors where certain mechanisms have already been implemented. Naturally, work will continue in this direction. It should also be noted that the sector itself is unequivocally positively disposed. On the other hand, it looks hopefully at the issue of optimising prices and regulating them more fairly,” Mikheil Sarjveladze stated.
The meeting with pharmaceutical company representatives was conducted in a discussion format and was attended by representatives of 25 pharmaceutical companies.
