Health Minister chairs meeting of NCDC supervisory board

A meeting of the Supervisory Board of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health was held under the leadership of Mikheil Sarjveladze, where the Center’s key achievements in 2025 were reviewed and action plans for 2026 were discussed, the Ministry of Health reported.

According to the ministry, Sarjveladze emphasized the importance of the Center for Disease Control and noted that strengthening its institutional and technical capacity remains one of the ministry’s priorities. The Minister thanked members of the Board and international partner organizations for their support and cooperation.

Director General Irakli Purtseladze delivered a presentation on the Center’s activities, detailing the achievements of 2025, existing challenges, and future plans. Particular attention was given to progress in managing communicable and non-communicable diseases, expanding laboratory capacity, enhancing preparedness for public health risks, and ensuring effective response mechanisms.

It was noted during the meeting that Georgia’s malaria-free status, granted by the World Health Organization, is the result of a long-term and consistent policy that has earned international recognition.

As part of the event, employees of the Center were awarded for their significant contribution to achieving the historic milestone of malaria elimination in Georgia.
