National Hero Zhiuli Shartava would have turned 81 today. Head of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic Government Levan Mgaloblishvili, MP Lika Shartava and Abkhazian government members laid a wreath at Zhiuli Shartava’s grave in Vake Pantheon.

“I had the honor to commemorate National Hero Zhiuli Shartava today. He was the person who, with his deeds and ideas, was born to be a hero.

For me, as the Head of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic Government, it is a pride and big responsibility to be his heir. His courage, dedication and love to the motherland, laid the solid foundation to Georgia’s independence and made Zhiuli Shartava’s name immortal.

What he sacrificed with his life, we, Georgians and Abkhazians, will achieve through peace and unity of the people and restore the territorial integrity of Georgia,” said Levan Mgaloblishvili.

Zhiuli Shartava, National Hero who served as the Head of the Government of the Abkhazian Autonomous Republic, was killed by Abkhaz militants in 1993.
