Gov’t Commission approves National Action Plan for Georgia’s EU integration
The 61st sitting of the Government Commission on Georgia’s EU Integration headed by Prime Minister Irakli Gharibashvili approved the 2022 National Action Plan taking into account the new reality and prospects.
It was noted that after the application, Georgia-EU relations entered a new phase and the country successfully continues to implement the reforms envisaged in the Association Agreement with the EU and the Association Agenda, both in terms of legislative and institutional rapprochement with the EU.
The Commission decided that permanent working groups will be set up within the Commission to work on the implementation of the questionnaires received from the European Union. In addition, the process of individual dialogue with EU member states, which has already begun, will be intensified. The Prime Minister is in active communication with senior officials of the EU member states.
The Parliament of Georgia will be actively involved in the process in order to take the appropriate steps in the legislative direction effectively. Particular attention will be paid to strategic communication so that, on the one hand, the Georgian people are informed in detail about the steps to be taken in the process of completing the EU questionnaire, and on the other hand, the community of EU member states knows exactly Georgia’s role and function. Each agency has received instructions from the Prime Minister to take all necessary steps on this path in the shortest possible time and effectively.
At today’s sitting, the Commission approved the 2022 National Action Plan for Georgia’s EU Integration, heard the report on the implementation of the 2021 National Action Plan for Georgia’s EU integration, as well as discussed the EU Eastern Partnership flagship projects and their implementation prospects. The keynote speaker on these issues was the Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Foreign Affairs Minister David Zalkaliani.
The Government Commission for Georgia’s Integration into the European Union is the main decision-making body on EU integration issues, whose task is to oversee Georgia’s EU integration process, including the fulfilment of its commitments to the European Union.
The Commission will hold meetings regularly and will discuss the progress that Georgia will make on the path of EU integration and fulfilment of the received tasks.
