Government publishes photos of solemn event held on candidate status granting occasion
The Georgian government published photos of the solemn event held on the EU candidate status granting occasion at Freedom Square in Georgi’s capital, Tbilisi.
Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, Georgian Dream party Chairman Irakli Kobakhidze and Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze addressed the gathered crowd.
“We fought, we worked hard, and we won together – the government and the people deservedly won EU candidate country status,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili in his address to the citizens gathered in downtown Tbilisi to celebrate the nation’s EU candidate status.
Garibashvili went on to say: “We went through a lot of trials, we encountered many difficulties on this path, but we walked this road with dignity and determination”.
“This historic victory belongs to you, our invincible, unbroken, proud, and freedom-loving Georgian people,” the PM said.
On December 14, the European Council opened EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova and granted EU candidate status to Georgia.
