The Georgian government has joined a 16-day annual campaign for violence against women held from November 25 to December 10.
The government announced gender and family-related violence as the top priority and carried out multi-sectoral and coordinated policies in the last few years.
The final November 8 opinion of the European Commission positively assessed the activities of institutions on gender violence and said that the government’s response is effective and clearly defined.
The Georgian government has joined several internationally adopted legislative acts and resolutions and approved the 2022-2024 national action plan and gender equality concept.
The campaign was started by activists at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute in 1991. It is used as an organizing strategy by individuals and organizations around the world to call for the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls. Over 5000 organizations from 187 countries mark the campaign.
