German Embassy: Peaceful revolution possible, fall of Berlin Wall is an example of this
A peaceful revolution is possible. The fall of the Berlin Wall is an example of this, reads the statement published on the Facebook page of the German Embassy in Georgia, in connection with the 35th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall.
According to the statement, it takes a struggle to gain freedom.
“For decades, the German Democratic Republic kept its citizens locked in a system of oppression and violence. The citizens of the GDR, showing their courage and desire to determine their own destiny and live in freedom, achieved the destruction of the Berlin Wall.
In doing so, together with the people of Central and Eastern Europe, they created the basis for German reunification and a free, united Europe. The same can be said today: freedom does not come by itself, we have to fight for it – it was like that then and it is like this today, here and around the world,” the statement reads.
