GeoStat reports 2.3% surge in domestic visits

Approximately 1 148.7 thousand Georgian tourists aged 15 years and up made 1 312.2 thousand visits (+2.3 %) within Georgia in the third quarter of 2020, the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat) announced on Monday.

The monthly average number of tourist visits by Georgian residents amounted to 663.3 thousand, which is 6.6% lower compared to 2019. 38.6% of visitors falls to the 31-50 age group, GeoStat said.

According to the survey results, 40.8% of visitors are Tbilisi residents, 13.3%from Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi, and Kvemo Svaneti region, 11.6% falls to Kvemo Kartli. The rest of the regions reported a lower share.

GeoStat noted that 38.6% of domestic travellers visited friends/relatives mostly in Georgian capital Tbilisi (average 262.9 thousand visits per month) and Imereti region (212.7 thousand visits per month). 54.8 per cent of visits come on women.

The monthly-average expenditure during the travel equaled 219.2 million GEL, 6.9 % lower compared to the relevant period of the last year. Average expenses per visit decreased by 1.4% and equaled to 167.0 GEL, GeoStat stressed.
