The National Statistics Service of Georgia (Geostat) reports that it has been publishing a new indicator — the Harmonized Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) — since 2022.
According to Geostat, inflation in January 2026 calculated under the EU HICP methodology amounted to 5.1%, which is 0.3 percentage points higher than the 4.8% inflation rate calculated using the national methodology.
Under the EU HICP methodology, annual price changes by category compared to January 2025 are distributed as follows: Food and non-alcoholic beverages — 9.1%; Alcoholic beverages and tobacco — 2.8%; Clothing and footwear — -2.1%; Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels — 0.0%; Furniture, household goods and home maintenance — -0.5%; Health — 8.2%; Transport — -0.4%; Information and communication — -5.0%; Recreation, sport and culture — 5.3%; Education — 2.3%; Restaurants and accommodation — 9.4%; Insurance and financial services — 2.4%; Personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods — 10.0%.
