GeoStat: Inflation calculated via EU methodology stood at 5.1% in September
According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat), inflation measured by the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) stood at 5.1 per cent in September 2026—0.5 percentage points lower than the 5.6 per cent inflation rate calculated using national methodology.
By individual expenditure categories under the EU’s HICP methodology, year-on-year changes compared to September 2025 were driven primarily by a 19.0% increase in transport, an 11.8% rise in personal care, social protection, and miscellaneous goods, a 9.2% increase in housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, a 7.9% rise in health, and a 7.1% increase in recreation, sport, and culture.
Prices for alcoholic beverages and tobacco rose by 5.9%, followed by insurance and financial services at 4.8%, and hotels and restaurants at 3.7%. Food prices rose 3.2%, with household furnishings up 1.2%. Conversely, decreases were recorded in education (-9.7%), clothing and footwear (-4.7%), and information and communication (-3.2%)
GeoStat began publishing the Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices as a new economic indicator in 2022.
