GeoStat: Final and more detailed population census results to be published in June

“The population and agricultural census was carried out in November and December 2024. Preliminary results were released at the end of June 2025, revealing that Georgia’s population stood at 3,914,000,” said Paata Shavishvili, Deputy Executive Director of the National Statistics Office (GeoStat).

He explained that by the end of April this year, the sex and age composition of the population at the municipal and regional levels will be published. Further information is expected to be released at the end of June 2026.

“The initial data was published by the city, village, and municipality, although these figures were provisional. By the end of April, we will publish detailed data on the sex and age distribution at the municipal and regional levels. By the end of June 2026, additional information will be made available, including details on nationality, education, marital status, employment, and unemployment.

Furthermore, data on housing conditions will be released, and most importantly, a comparison with the agricultural census will be provided, covering land area, livestock, poultry, and more,” said Paata Shavishvili.

He also highlighted that, for the first time in the history of the census, the entire process was fully digitalised.

“We did not collect data via paper questionnaires. The process was divided into two stages: first, the population registered themselves online; then our interviewers conducted door-to-door surveys using tablets. Additionally, we utilised administrative sources to supplement certain data. We are confident that the data is 100% accurate, as information from various sources was cross-verified,” added Paata Shavishvili.
