Georgia’s President Kavelashvili meets WTO Director-General in Geneva

The President of Georgia, Mikheil Kavelashvili, has met with the Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, during his visit to Geneva.

The meeting focused on the ongoing cooperation between Georgia and the WTO, as well as current global developments in international trade.

According to the Administration of the President of Georgia, discussions centred on Georgia’s implementation of its WTO commitments, the progress of domestic economic reforms, and the vital role of developing a robust multilateral trading system.

Both parties emphasised that Georgia’s 26-year membership of the WTO has contributed significantly to the country’s economic modernisation, aligned its trade policies with international standards, and fostered a predictable climate for foreign investment.

The talks also highlighted Georgia’s transit potential and the growing strategic importance of the Middle Corridor. Ongoing trade facilitation reforms and key infrastructure developments are strengthening Georgia’s role in connecting Europe and Asia.

The President of Georgia reaffirmed the country’s commitment to maintaining a close partnership with the WTO and reiterated its strong support for reinforcing a free, fair, and rules-based multilateral international trading system.
