First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Giorgi Zurabashvili met with the Head of the European Union Delegation to Georgia, Ambassador Pawel Herczynski.

According to the Foreign Ministry, the meeting aimed to convey Georgia’s position on its efforts to comply with EU-imposed restrictive measures against Russia and to prevent any circumvention of sanctions.

“Giorgi Zurabashvili provided the EU side with comprehensive information on the steps taken by the Georgian government and state agencies to monitor cargo and ship movements in Georgia, identify sanctioned objects, expose international activities related to the so-called shadow fleet, and implement restrictive measures imposed by international financial institutions. The First Deputy Minister emphasized that reports on Georgia’s proactive measures and identified cases are regularly shared with international partners, primarily relevant EU institutions.

He also noted that media reports suggesting that the Georgian port of Kulevi could be added to the EU sanctions list are entirely unfounded, unsubstantiated, and without factual basis. No sanctioned objects have been detected at Kulevi, and there have been no cases of ships receiving or evading sanctions. The First Deputy Minister added that no questions or concerns had been raised by EU institutions regarding Kulevi, reflecting years of effective cooperation between Georgia and the EU on restrictive measures, as evidenced by positive assessments from the EU Representative on Sanctions, David O’Sullivan.

The Georgian side expressed hope that EU institutions and member states would consider these objective facts and the extensive measures Georgia has taken to comply with sanctions. They also emphasized the importance of not hindering the Caspian-Black Sea-Europe strategic corridor and the EU Middle Corridor initiative, of which Kulevi port is an integral part,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The European Union Delegation to Georgia also issued an official statement regarding the meeting.
