Georgia’s FM calls for objective and fair assessment of developments in Georgia
“The briefing of the diplomatic corps accredited to Georgia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs aimed to provide full clarity regarding the October 4 elections and the events that unfolded in Tbilisi on that day,” stated Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili.
The Minister explained that the diplomats were briefed on information that the public had witnessed live on television.
“The ambassadors were also informed about the ongoing investigations into the events of October 4. The discussion included responses from the international community and various actors, many of whom have misrepresented the events in some cases, fostering false perceptions and misconceptions about Georgia. It is essential that the processes taking place in Georgia are assessed objectively, and that fair and accurate statements are made,” Botchorishvili emphasised.
Furthermore, Maka Botchorishvili clarified that the ambassadors had not been summoned for reprimand.
“October 4 was a bright and sunny day in Georgia; it was certainly not a dark day. Politically, it was a day marked by clear, sunny weather. The statements made by certain individuals and shared by some countries do not accurately reflect the current situation in the country. We did not summon the ambassadors to scold or reprimand them; rather, we invited them to share objective information,” Botchorishvili added.
Today, a meeting was held at the Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the ambassadors accredited to Georgia. The purpose of the gathering was to discuss the events that unfolded on October 4.
