Georgian Radio turns 101

Georgian Radio has turned 101 today. May 23, 1925, was the date when Georgia launched its first radio broadcast.

In 2025, Georgian Radio’s 00th jubilee was marked by a special event: Georgian Radio was officially granted the status of an intangible cultural heritage monument.

Despite technological advancements and the advancement of social networks, the radio maintains its audience, niche, and relevance. The GPB First Channel’s new packaging is based on the concept of “Broadcasting since 1925”.

Georgian Radio is one of the oldest stations in Europe. Its archive materials of the Gold Fund keep millions of recordings, including folk songs and radio theatre. The first recording dates back to 1913 when a gramophone recorded Georgian poet Akaki Tsereteli’s “Gantiadi.”

Two Public Broadcaster radio channels are available in Georgia: FM 102.3 and Radio Music of Georgia on FM 100.9.
