Georgian President to issue presidential pardon act on April 27 as signatory parties enter parliament for plenary session

“The political parties have reached an agreement. They plan to enter the Parliament on April 27 to participate in the plenary session. Therefore, the presidential pardon act will be issued on the same day,” a statement by the President of Georgia, Salome Zourabichvili, reads.

“The statement of the Georgian President on April 19 reads: For the country and parliament to return to normal political life and overcome the challenges, the President decided to grant pardon on certain conditions.

The political parties, the ruling party and the opposition have reached an agreement confirmed by the President of the European Council and the US Ambassador, thus, the first condition has been met.

As for the second condition, the political parties have publicly signed the final agreement, and their entry into the parliament is scheduled for April 27, at the plenary session.

Following the statement, the second condition will be fulfilled within a week. Therefore, the presidential pardon will be granted on the same day!” Salome Zourabichvili said.

Most of the Georgian political parties signed A way ahead for Georgia, a compromise document submitted to the parties by the European Council President Charles Michel, at the Orbeliani Palace on April 19. This agreement is also open for individual members to sign.
