Georgian PM says his government aims to safeguard tourism as a vital sector of economy

“We must be prudent in every respect. Our goal is to safeguard our tourism to the utmost,” stated Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze during a press briefing at the Government Administration.

According to the head of government, tourism represents one of the key sectors of Georgia’s economy.

“We were already facing difficulties in the tourism sector when the conflict in the Middle East broke out. Naturally, arrivals from the Middle East, Arab nations, and Israel declined, and now they want to manufacture a problem regarding Russia and Russian tourists, which will not work. We must remain vigilant; if we do not act, they might achieve success. Substantial resources have been mobilised: handlers abroad and foreign agents at home, alongside their political parties, party activists, and party-aligned media; everyone is involved in stoking this Russophobic campaign.

However, if we stand firm just as we did back in 2022, when they demanded we open a second front, impose sanctions, and dispatch volunteer fighters, and when they mounted Russophobic campaigns, yet achieved nothing because the public rose to the occasion, then now, too, if we as a society all rise to the occasion together, these campaigns will yield no results,” stated the Prime Minister.
