Georgian FM meets UK Ambassador

Minister of Foreign Affairs Maka Botchorishvili met the Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Georgia, Gareth Ward, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported.

The two sides discussed the current dynamics of bilateral relations. Minister Botchorishvili expressed concern that recent statements and actions by UK executive and legislative representatives—particularly the imposition of sanctions on Georgian citizens—undermine the strategic partnership and appear aimed at influencing Georgia’s internal political affairs.

The meeting also addressed Georgia’s new legislation on foreign funding. Ambassador Ward noted that the development of relevant regulatory procedures is in its final stages and all stakeholders will be promptly informed.

Minister Botchorishvili emphasized the importance of avoiding the politicization of legal proceedings and safeguarding the independence of the judiciary.

The discussion also covered regional security challenges, with both parties underscoring the vital role of strong and effective state institutions in maintaining national stability and security.
