Georgian Education Minister meets NATO’s David van Weel

Georgian Education Minister Giorgi Amilakhvari on Monday held a meeting with the Assistant Secretary General of NATO for Emerging Security Challenges, David van Weel.

During the meeting held at the NATO Headquarters, the parties emphasized the years-long fruitful cooperation between Georgia and NATO. Giorgi Amilakhvari thanked the NATO Assistant Secretary General for his invaluable support to Georgia and underlined the importance of duly reflecting the country’s progress in the Vilnius Summit Communique.

According to the Ministry’s press office, the sides also discussed the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Program which promotes greater involvement of the Georgian scientific community in research activities related to common security challenges in line with NATO priorities.

The Minister said this program provides an excellent opportunity for Georgian researchers and innovators to work together alongside leading scientists from NATO member states on important scientific research projects. Amilakhvari noted that many Georgian researchers are already interested in the SPS Program.

The parties agreed to create a dedicated scientific dialogue format between NATO and Georgia within the scope of the NATO Science for Peace and Security (SPS) Program, for the exchange and share of ideas and experiences. Within the frames of the NATO-Georgia Scientific Dialogue format, the working meetings will be held in both Georgia and Brussels.

The dignitaries once again confirmed the importance of long-term scientific cooperation and expressed readiness to enhance the partnership in the future.

The meeting was attended by Viktor Dolidze, the Head of the Mission of Georgia to NATO.
