Georgian Economy Minister, Chinese Minister of Commerce review cooperation intensification, increase exports of Georgian products

Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili, met Chinese Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao.

The Ministers reviewed trade relations and the intensification of economic cooperation. They signed a document on amendments to the Free Trade Agreement between Georgia and China, taking into account new trends in adapting to the demands of the modern trade environment.

The two ministers focused on a high-level strategic partnership. They noted that in the first quarter of 2026, trade turnover between Georgia and the People’s Republic of China increased by 55%. It is worth emphasizing that China is Georgia’s third largest trading partner and its first largest export partner.

Mariam Kvrivishvili reconfirmed readiness to implement a special promotion program for the Chinese market in order to increase the export of Georgian products.

The two ministers discussed opportunities to attract more Chinese invesments in transport, logistics, infrastructure and energy sectors.

Mariam Kvrivishvili and Wang Wentao hailed the increase in visitors contributed by direct flights and the visa-free travel agreement enacted from May 28, 2024. It is worth noting that currently, two Chinese airlines operate 10 flights per week between Georgia and China.

The ministers emphasized the significance of connectivity and deepening cooperation to further increase cargo turnover between China and Europe through the Middle Corridor.

The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Mariam Kvrivishvili, accompanied by a delegation, has departed for Beijing, where she will engage in significant meetings with representatives of the Chinese government and leaders of major corporations.
