Georgian Dream ready for talks with opposition

Irakli Kobakhidze, leader of the parliamentary majority, says that the ruling Georgian Dream party is ready to participate in the fifth round of talks.

Kobakhidze told reporters that the ruling party is ready for talks even if the fifth round is scheduled for tomorrow.

“Let’s see what the position of the opposition would be,” Kobakhidze said.

“There is no room for holding early elections until they [opposition] bring evidence that something has been rigged in the country, and they will be held accountable for any sabotage within the law,” the leader of the parliamentary majority told reporters.

According to him, the opposition does not agree to recount the election results because they know that no falsification took place. A plebiscite is also a hand-wrapped manipulation, Kobakhidze said.

“They are well aware that plebiscites and referendums are not for the appointment of early elections, and there is a clear legal argument for this. They know everything well, but they speculate constantly. It would have been better for them to get out of the sabotage and speculation mode and start working following the Constitution of Georgia,” Irakli Kobakhidze said.

Negotiations on results of the October 31 parliamentary elections between the ruling party and the opposition are mediated by the US and EU ambassadors to Georgia. The fifth round is scheduled, though no date is provided.
