Georgian Defense Minister expresses condolences to Turkey over military plane crash

Georgian Defense Minister and Vice Prime Minister Irakli Chikovani held a telephone conversation with Turkish Defense Minister Yaşar Güler following the crash of a Turkish military cargo aircraft near the Georgian-Azerbaijani border.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Defense, Chikovani expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and extended condolences on behalf of the Georgian Defense Ministry to his Turkish counterpart.

He also conveyed his sympathy to the families and relatives of the victims, the Turkish Armed Forces, and the brotherly people of Turkey.

The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the Turkish military aircraft, flying in the Azerbaijan–Turkey direction, crashed in the Sighnaghi municipality, approximately five kilometers from the Georgian border.

As reported by Sakaeronavigatsia, both Ganja Airport and the Turkish authorities have been informed about the incident.

The Turkish Ministry of Defense has confirmed that a Turkish C-130 transport aircraft crashed near the Georgian-Azerbaijani border, with 20 servicemen on board.
