Georgian Defence Minister participates in Ramstein meeting

Georgian Defence Minister Irakli Chikovani participated in Ukraine’s 27th contact group meeting in Ramstein format held at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.

The defence ministers of the alliance member and partner states and high-ranking defence officials attended the meeting. John Healey, Secretary of State for Defence of the United Kingdom and Boris Pistorius, German Federal Minister of Defence delivered opening remarks.

The meeting participants reviewed the situation in Ukraine and discussed the need for military assistance and emergency support for Ukraine.

The Ramstein format was created after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. In April 2022, then U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin gathered the allies at the U.S. air base in Ramstein, Germany, where they first agreed on further military support for Kyiv. From February 13, 2025, it will be coordinated by the United Kingdom together with Germany.
